2012 (Part 2)

Kia Ora Fellow Gallopers,

Another year’s come and gone – a year that was packed with events ranging from the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee to the London Olympics to the US Presidential election. The aftershocks of the economic crisis continued to rock the world economies and the world was to have ended this year.

While being a silent spectator to the atrocities that one fellow human inflicts on another, this beautiful planet that we call Home sent out very clear signals to us, by way of storms and super storms,  that we will have to bear the consequences of our bad and reckless stewardship of her.

Following on from yesterday’s post – 2012 (Part 1) – here are the rest of our most highly rated* images from the past 12 months. Hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed making them:

Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2011

Hello Fellow Gallopers,

Last Sunday, the 22nd of May, 2011, saw more than 27,000 runners take to the streets of Edinburgh to participate in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival. The marathon was launched in 2003 and the route that the marathoners run is now a fully IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federation) compliant one.

3,000 participants took part in the marathon in its first year and this number rapidly grew to 14,370 in 2010 making it the fastest growing marathon in the world. In addition to this, the marathon itself has been ranked as the fastest marathon in the UK and hence is a favourite event with elite runners looking to set qualifying times for the Olympics 2012 and the Commonwealth Games 2014.

Runners also participate in this event to raise much needed funds for their preferred charity. The event offers a platform for 250+ affiliated charities to raise over £3 million a year for various worthy causes such as eradicating poverty and combating injustice, homelessness, cancer and combating premature death from heart disease to name just a few.
